Read and Write Software
The response to COVID-19 resulted in a rapid transition to remote delivery and assessment at our post secondary institution. Supporting students with complex exam accommodations such as reader (text-to-speech) and scribe (speech-to-text) software became a challenge as our existing assistive technology was limited to stand-alone software downloaded to individual machines in our physical exam centre. To support remote access to these required supports, an exploration of alternatives to Kurzweil and Dragon ended with Read and Write Software. The launch of access to this new software remains under development, but follows is an example of user education now underway.
